Highlights

Starting in the lovely, historic seaport of Ferrol with its harbour dating back to the 9th century, the Camino Inglés follows the shore of the wild Atlantic for a while, before it turns inland and leads onward through the picturesque Galician countryside.

As on all other Caminos in the North-Western part of Galicia, Camino Inglés offers a wonderful blend of forested, slightly hilly landscape and occasional, pleasant towns and villages in which to stop for food and rest.

As the number of pilgrims grows steadily from year to year, the pilgrim-friendly infrastructure also continues to improve, making the English a great choice for both new pilgrims as well as for the experienced ones seeking to set out on a new Camino adventure.

Impressions from the Camino

itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Santiago de Compostela – Ferrol

Flight to Spain, transfer from Santiago Airport to Ferrol (approximately 90 – 100 km/56 – 62 mi, 1 to 1½ hours). Check into you room and prepare mind and body for the pilgrimage. Enjoy the beautiful city of Ferrol and its port, with a history dating back to the 9th century.

Day 2: Ferrol – (Neda) – Cabanas

Today, as on every pilgrimage day, we offer a spiritual start.
Initially, the Camino Inglés leads you around the bay of Ferrol and past the small monastery of San Mar¬tino de Xubio. (If you want to avoid almost 10 kilometers/6 miles, you can turn before the first underpass towards A Coruña. You will reach the Camino again in Fene.) We then go inland to estuary of the Eume and to the village of Cabanas. There is a nice beach here in Magdalena.
(27 km/17 mi – Easy, but a bit longer)

Day 3: Cabanas – Betanzos

From Cabanas, we first cross the 500 m/547 yd long stone bridge to Pontedueme. Then, the Camino goes uphill and soon offers pilgrims great views of Betanzos and Ferrol. We continue now along the coast to the town of Miño and the estuary of the Lambre River. Betanzos is also located here, surrounded by green marshland. Take your time to enjoy this beautiful medieval town.
(23 km/14 mi – Easy)

Day 4: Betanzos – Hospital de Bruma

Past Betanzos, the Camino leaves the coast. After a few kilometers/miles, you come into the village Cos, where you are offered two paths. (We recommend the old route to the right.) We cross the Mendo River on a medieval bridge and later pass the abandoned monastery of San Paio. We reach Hospital de Bruma, known for its beautiful medieval hospital.
(28 km/17 mi – Easy to moderately difficult)

Day 5: Hospital de Bruma – Sigüeiro

From Bruma, we go through the green Galician countryside as we know it: green meadows, small villages, and dense forests. Today, you will pass the church of San Xiao and the pleasant village of Casanova. Past the village of Baizioa, just before Sigüeiro, we recommend to follow the old route, the one that does not go along the highway on the right.
(25 km/16 mi – Easy)

Day 6: Sigüeiro – Santiago de Compostela

Past Sigüeiro, the Camino crosses the Tambre River. Compared to the last stage of other tours, this stage is very close to nature and probably comparably quieter. You will reach, after only 15 kilometers/9 miles, the pilgrimage destination Santiago de Compostela.
(15 km/9 mi – Easy)

Day 7: Santiago de Compostela

Free day in Santiago. There is the option to attend the pilgrim’s mass, a possible guided tour of the city, and receive the pilgrim’s certificate, the Compostela, at the pilgrim’s office. Farewell to the Camino.

Day 8: Journey Home

Return flight from Santiago de Compostela. There is the option to book additional nights.

¡Buen Camino!
