This tour is an international tour and is designed to reflect the cultural diversity of the Camino Francés. It is accompanied by the tour guide in both German and English.

“Half Double Room“ Surcharge:For people who register alone and book a double room, we apply a surcharge (“half double room”). If there is no other person of the same gender for the second spot in the double room, the person gets a single room and we apply the above-mentioned surcharge. If a second person registers for the double room, this surcharge not longer applies.

Transfer airport – Camino: Transfer from Bilbao Airport at the starting date of your pilgrimage on the day of arrival and transfer from the Camino to Bilbao Airport on the day of departure. We specify an window of possible time of arrival (and departure time) at one of the main airports for the Camino. You travel independently until this time and we organize the transfer to the Camino (and/or back).

Half board: Meals generally start with dinner on the day of arrival and end with breakfast on the day of departure. Exceptions: Meals on rest days in Burgos (Tour 2), León (Tour 3), and Finisterre (Tour 5) are not included in the tour price and are self-organized. Meals on Tour 4 (Santiago) , Tour Sarria, Tour Inglés and Tour Portgués Coastal (Porto) end with dinner on the arrival day in Santiago. Our Tour Portugués Costal (Porto) begins with breakfast on the first walking day.

Tour guide: No assistance provided by the tour guide on rest days and free days. The tour guide does not walk with pilgrims on the Camino on walking days, but organizes luggage transfers and remains available with the assistance vehicle in case of emergencies.

 Flights: We do not book flights, nor organize any rail or commercial bus-line travel. However, if you need assistance in deciding how to get to and back from your Camino Tour, we will be happy to assist you with tips and ideas!

Travel insurance: We strongly recommend to all our travelers to get a Travel Insurance; however, we do not sell any such policies. For our international clients, it is best to get a policy in their country of residence, as some countries offer insurances only to their own residents.

Highlights

Our journey starts in Nájera, along with its famous monastery Santa María la Real. From there, the Camino leads us over hilly lands towards Santo Domingo de la Calzada, known for the famous miracle of the hen.

In Redecilla del Camino, we enter the province of Burgos. We ascend to the Goose Hills (Montes de Oca) that leads pilgrims to the Castilian plateau.

Burgos is the stop for our rest day, where we have enough time to wander around town and visit the impressive Gothic cathedral. After Burgos, the Camino take us through the Meseta, known for its scenic views and landscapes of intense colors, and we reach the destination of this pilgrimage: Calzadilla de la Cueza.

Day 1: Arrival in Bilbao – Nájera

Arrival in Spain, transfer from Bilbao Airport to the Camino in Nájera (approximately 140 kilometers/87 miles). After moving into our rooms, there will be a moment to get to know each other and prepare mind and body for the Camino. There is the option to visit the city.

Day 2: Nájera – Santo Domingo de la Calzada

Today, as on every pilgrimage day, we offer a spiritual start. This short introduction to the day is, of course, optional. We hike through vineyards to Santo Domingo de la Calzada, where we can visit its famous cathedral with the hen and rooster.

Day 3: Santo Domingo de la Calzada – Belorado

As it runs over smooth hills and through some typical Castilian villages to Belorado, we continue the Camino for many kilometers/miles parallel to the N210 national road. After Grañón, we leave La Rioja and enter the province of Burgos (Castilla y León).

Day 4: Belorado – San Juan de Ortega

After walking through the plains, the Camino takes us up into the Goose Hills (Montes de Oca) before it finally reaches the very small village San Juan de Ortega with its renowned monastery.

Day 5: San Juan de Ortega – Burgos

We cross the heights of Atapuerca in order to reach Burgos afterward. There is the option to take the much more pleasant and beautiful alternative route along the river Arlanzón, approximately 2 kilometers/1.2 miles more.

Day 6: Burgos

Free day in Burgos with plenty of time to visit points of interest in the city. The Gothic cathedral of Burgos is one of the highlights of the Camino in Spain.

Day 7: Burgos – Hornillos del Camino

Hike from Burgos into the Meseta (Castilian plateau) and finally to Hornillos del Camino with its typical flair of a village along the Camino.

Day 8: Hornillos del Camino – Hontanas – Castrojeriz

Hike via Hontanas through the ruins of an Augustinian monastery before reaching Castrojeriz which stretches far along the Camino.

Day 9: Castrojeriz – Boadilla del Camino

Over the Table Mountain called Alto de Mostelares, we pass by the famous chapel San Nicolás and reach Boadilla del Camino. The bridge over the Pisuerga River marks the end of the province of Burgos and we enter the province of Palencia.

Day 10: Boadilla del Camino – Villalcázar de Sirga

We hike along the Canal de Castilla winding through Frómista, where we reach the wonderful Romanesque church San Martín and continue on the “pilgrim highway” to Villalcázar de Sirga.

Day 11: Villalcázar de Sirga – Calzadilla de la Cueza

Hike to Calzadilla de la Cueza. On arguably the most stunning stretch of the Meseta, we can always walk straight ahead on the treeless and shadowless plateau to Cazadilla, hidden in a depression until the very end.

Day 12: Calzadilla de la Cueza – Bilbao – Return Flight

Transfer to Bilbao Airport (approximately 280 kilometers/174 miles) and independent journey home. Alternatively, you can continue the Camino with Tour 3 – León.
