Breakfasts are not available everywhere, and they are often served late, starting around 8 am. However, if you wish to include brekfasts, we will be happy to do so, where possible.

Spending an extra night in a given town throughout your journey is often a good idea: you give your body a rest, relax and enjoy exploring the town. The same goes for the departure, unless you end your journey in Santiago and fly out of Santiago Airport. Highlights

The tradition of walking beyond Santiago to Fisterra – the end of the world as it was known in the Middle Ages – and on to Muxía is deeply rooted in history. Pilgrims of old would bathe in the Atlantic to symbolize the ending of their journey, and worship in Muxía, where Virgin Mary appeared to Apostle James.

Today, just like before, many pilgrims add this Camino on top of their Way – the French Way, the Portuguese Way or whichever other one – to Santiago. Leaving the jolly hustle and bustle of the city of Santiago behind, it leads pilgrims into the tranquil, hilly greenery characteristic of these lands.

Through thick, mossy forests, across fertile fields, past dreamy little villages, and culminating in magnificent seaside panoramas, this Camino breathes calmness and magic, and it invites to contemplation and profound reflections.

It is both relatively short and fairly easy to walk. Fisterra as well as Muxía are true jewels, both worth considering spending more than one day in.

Day 1: Arrival in Santiago de Compostela

Whether on foot along one of the Caminos, or by plane, train or bus – your travels have brought you to Santiago de Compostela. Check in, and spend the rest of the day enjoying and exploring this amazing city!

Day 2: Santiago de Compostela – Negreira • 22.1 km. (13.7 mi.)

Shortly after walking out of the historic center of Santiago, the Camino winds you up gradual hills through a beatiful, forested area. And just as you think that you have left the city far behind, an unexpected opening reveals an awe-inspiring, panoramic vista of the cathedral of Santiago and the old town. The Camino then contibnues over hills and tranquil, dreamy forests until the next surprise: the absolutely stunning medieval bridge of Maceira. Passing through a few quaint Galician villages, you eventually reach today’s destination: Negreira.

Distance: 22.1 km. (13.7 mi.) | Difficulty: Easy

Day 3: Negreira – Vilar do Castro (Mazaricos) • 24.0 km (14.9 mi.)

Hike to Vilar do Castro. After Negreira, the route passes through very rural areas and many small villages. In Gueima, follow the variant to the left in the direction of Vilar do Castro. From there, the accommodation is signposted with green arrows and approximately 4.5 kilometers/2.8 miles away.

Distance: 24.0 km (14.9 mi) | Difficulty: Moderate

Day 4: (Mazaricos) Ponte Olveira – Cee • 23.5 km. (14.6 mi.)

In the morning, follow the main road towards Zanfoga, where you turn right at the fork and hike through woodland to Ponte Olveira. From there, you continue through the restored village of Olveiroa, certainly worth seeing, and its imposing corn silos. The Way of Saint James leads up to the plateau before Ceé. Shortly before Ceé, you can see the sea for the first time.

Distance: 23.5 km. (14.6 mi.) | Difficulty: Moderate

Day 5: Cee – Fisterra – the Cape of Fisterra • 16 km. (9.9 mi.)

Just beyond Cee, after you leave the bay of Corcubión, you will ascend the heights of Saint Roch (San Roque), from where you will be able to see the coast and some secluded beaches. Instead of walking the last 2.5 km. (1.6 mi.) into Fisterra along the promenade (the Camino), you can opt to take off your boots and walk the beach: on the sand or ankle-deep in the water. If you wish, you can also make use of an ancient Pilgrim custom: to get into the Ocean’s water as a symbol of purification upon your journey. This Beach is the best if not only place to do so: the beach on the other side of town picturesque as it is – is extremely dangerous because of underwater currents! Once you get into the town of Fisterra, the Camino will lead you out of it on the other side and on toward the Cape – the End of the World – with the iconic lighthouse and the „Km. 0“ stone post. Congratulations, Pilgrim: you have made it to the End of the World! If you were collecting stamps regularly in your Credencial del Peregrino, you can get receive a „Fisterrana“ a certificate of completion of the Camino Fisterra, issued free of charge. Fisterra, with its amazing seafood and its charm and calming atmosphere, feels almost out of time and space. It is very well worth considering spending a full extra day and one additional night here.

Distance: 16 km. (9.9 mi.) | Difficulty: Easy

Day 6: Fisterra – Lires • 13.5 km. (8.4 mi.)

Today’s journey is a short one, and it is not physically straneous, either; therefore, there is no need to rush out of Fisterra at the first light of the day. Enjoy the morning in the town! If you would like to treat yourself to a tasty (late) breakfast / brunch before setting out, we highly recommend the Cafe La Frontera, located diagonally opposite from the bus station. Once you leave Fisterra, the Camino will wind across farmed fields until it will plunge into lush, dense and fertile forest. Now and again, you will descry the roaring of the oceanic waves at a far distance, penetrating the serene stillness of the thick, mossy forest. Enjoy this lovely walk and, later, at your today’s seaside-located destination of Lires, you will also be able to enjoy the sunset at the beach bar.

Distance: 13.5 km. (8.4 mi.) | Difficulty: Easy

Day 7: Lires – Muxía • 15.3 km. (9.5 mi.)

Over country lanes and narrow paths through woods much like yesterday’s, you will walk to the pilgrimage destination of the Virgin Mary: Muxía. As the Legend goes, back in the day, Apostle James was not having much success converting the locals to Christianity. He prayed to the Virgin Mary, and she appeared before him and gave him new hope. The Celtic stones around Muxía are said to have belonged to the stone ship she’d arrived on and the Church, set atop the cliffs, is truly magical! As today’s journey is also a short one, there will be plenty of time to explore this beautiful place. And, much like in Fisterra, a local Certificate of Completion – La Muxiana – can be obtained here upon presenting your Credencial del Peregrino, provided you collected the necessary stamps in it.

Distance: 15.3 km. (9.5 mi.) | Difficulty: Easy

Day 8: Departure from Muxía

Multiple buses run daily between Muxía and Santiago. The ride is approx. 2.5 hrs., and the fare is paid directly to the bus driver. Transfer back to Santiago, from where you can continue your journey back home. Alternatively, you can spend an extra night in Muxía, or in Santiago.

¡Buen Camino!
