This tour is organised and guided by Pilgino. The group size is limited to 25 people. Our tour-guide will be there to take care of everything, and to interpret for you when visiting the vineries. Travelling will be done by minibus, which leaves us free to adapt our schedule to the wishes of the group.
We will start this trip in Bilbao. If you decide to arrive earlier and explore this beautiful city on your own, we would be happy to book a hotel in the historic city centre for you. There are plenty of things to see here and a city tour can be arranged for everybody who arrives early.
In the afternoon of the first day, we will pick you up from the airport or your hotel, and drive to the old monastery of Leyre. On the last day of this tour (Day 9), we will arrive in Santiago de Compostela, do a city-tour and have a big farewell dinner.
The tour ends on Day 10 and you can either return home or extend your stay to explore Santiago on your own. If you wish to stay longer, just let us know and we will be happy to book accommodation for you.
Highlights of the Tour
We took great care to keep this tour as varied as possible, and there will be different highlights for everybody. Here are some contenders:
The cornerstone of this tour is getting to know the wine tradition of the regions and visiting different Bodegas. Wine tastings will be an essential and fun part of every day, but not the only one:
Almost every day you will be able to hike on a lesser known part of the Camino de Santiago.
We will visit a pottery in Navarette, which blends more traditional designs with contemporary ones.
You will have the possibility to hike through the vineyards of the Rioja region with a mule – a traditional work animal, and surprisingly fascinating too! You can also ride by horse (additional costs apply).
We will visit the most important cities along the Camino Francés and see their impressive sights on the guided city tours of Burgos, León and Santiago.
We have selected special and varied lodging during this tour. Our first stop will the beautiful monastery San Salvador de Leyre, which goes back to the 9th century AD.
In Viana, Navarrete, Villafrance del Bierzo and Santiago we spend the night in historic royal estates. All are situated in the old city centre of the respective cities.
Our most exclusive lodging will certainly be the old Castillian castle of Curiel, which always hosts an excellent dinner with great wines.
Naturally, all lodging is completely renovated and meets all modern expectations without having lost its medieval atmosphere.
The group will have the option of walking different stages of the Camino de Santiago. If you cannot walk or are feeling lazy, you can always hop on our minibus.
For anyone wanting a special treat, we offer an upgrade to superior rooms. They are available in roughly every second lodging (additional costs apply).
