The last 100 kilometres to Santiago makes for one the most exciting stages of the Camino Frances. Experience the comradery and excitement of the pilgrims, so close to their destination! Our journey begins in Sarria and leads us first to Portomarín. The city had to make way for a dam in the 1960s and its two historic churches were dismantled and rebuilt stone by stone in their new location next to the river.
Through medieval villages we will carry on to the bustling pilgrim’s town of Palas de Rei. Next day’s destination is Mélide, where you should try the delicious octopus in one of their famous pulperías (pulpo=octopus)! Over romantic trails and through the forest, the Camino finally leads up the Monte do Gozo (Hill of Joy). The pilgrims are indeed joyous here, as they get a first sight of the Cathedral of Santiago. Once in Santiago de Compostela, we get to explore the beautiful old town, pick up your Compostela (pilgrim’s certificate) and visit the pilgrim’s mess for a memorable end of this journey.
This trip will last 7 days and you will travel 110 kilometres.
